Uses Preposition “Down” (Down এর ব্যবহার )

(i) উঁচু স্থান থেকে নিচু স্থানে বোঝাতে

• The stone rolled down the hill.
• Tears rolled down her face.
• Her hair hung down her back to her waist.

(ii) বরাবর কিংবা তুমি সম্মুখীন হচ্ছো এমন অভিমুখ বোঝাতে

• He lives just down the street.
• Go down the road till you reach the traffic lights.

Uses Preposition During (During এর ব্যবহার)

(i). প্রায়ই since এবং for-এর সঙ্গে during-এর ব্যবহার গুলিয়ে ফেলা হয়। During স্বভাবতই একটি noun এর সঙ্গে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে সময় নির্দেশ করে। এটা দ্বারা duration of time বোঝানো হয় । যেমন— শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত সমগ্র সময়কে বোঝাতে

• During our vacation, we visited many relatives across the country.
• During the summer, we do not have to study.

(ii) নির্দিষ্ট একটি সময়কালের একটি পর্যায়ে কোনকিছু ঘটে এমন বোঝাতে during অথবা in ব্যবহৃত হয়

• We’ll be on holiday during/in July.
• The old road is sometimes closed during/in winter.

(iii) সমগ্র সময় জুড়ে বোঝাতে during ব্যবহৃত হয়

• We need fewer workers during long weekends.
• There were no classes during the whole of May.

Uses Preposition “For” (For এর ব্যবহার)

(i) কারোর ব্যবহারের উদ্দেশ্যে কোন কিছু রাখা অর্থে

• There is a letter for you.
• It is a book for children.

(ii) কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে সাহায্যের উদ্দেশ্যে বা কোনো কিছুর জন্য/পক্ষে

• The common mass have no good feeling for the corrupted.
• Corruption is a curse for a nation.
• Can you translate this letter for me?

(iii) কারো পক্ষে প্রতিনিধি হিসাবে কোন কর্ম সম্পাদন করা অর্থে

• I am speaking for everyone in this department.
• He presented the matter in the Parliament for the countrymen.

(iv) কোন কিছু গ্রহণ, মুকাবিলা বা অর্জন করার উদ্দেশ্যে

• He came to me for advice.
• For more information, call this number.

(v) মূল্য (price) বোঝাতে

• Copies are available for two dollars each.

(vi) গন্তব্য (destination) নির্দেশ করতে

• Is this bus for Chicago?
• She knew she was destined for a great future.

(vii) সময়ের দীর্ঘসূত্রিতা (duration) বোঝাতে

• I am going away for a few days.
• That’s all the news for now.

(viii) কারণ নির্দেশ করতে (because of অর্থে)

• They are dancing for joy.
• For Corrupt people, a nation will surely suffer.

(ix) স্বীকারোক্তি বোঝাতে (Inspite of অর্থে)

• For all his wealth he is not happy.

(x) বিনিময় (exchange) বোঝাতে।

• He took a Swiss watch for a China one.

(xi) কোন কিছুর সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ (Abbreviation) নির্দেশ করতে

• What does SOS stand for?

(xii) অস্পষ্ট বা অনির্দিষ্ট দূরত্ব বোঝাতে

• The river flows down for miles and miles.

(xiii) অনুরাগ, পছন্দ বা রুচি ইত্যাদি বোঝাতে (প্রতি/জন্য)

• He has a taste for classical music.
• The sailor felt a great love for them.

Uses Preposition “From” (From এর ব্যবহার)

(i) যাত্রাস্থান (থেকে/হতে/অবধি) বোঝাতে

• From Dhaka I will be flying to London.
• The procession is from the university campus to Shahbag.

(ii) যাত্রার সময়/সময় থেকে নির্দেশ করতে

• I am on leave from 10 May.
• She lived in Dhaka from 1990-1995.

(iii) জন্ম বা উৎপত্তিস্থল/উৎসস্থল, হতে/থেকে, আগত প্রবাহিত হওয়া বোঝাতে

• The sailor blessed them from his heart.
• Jenet Green is from Britain.
• This is a gift from my brother.
• A gentle breeze began to blow from the south.

(iv) পৃথকীকরণ, অপসারণ বা আনয়ন অর্থে

• We draw water from a nearby tank.
• The dead albatross fell from his neck.
• Nahid regularly borrows books from the central library.

(v) দূরত্ব (Distance) বোঝাতে

• It is more than two kilometers from here to the top of the hill.
• The bus stop is just a kilometer from my home.

(vi) সংখ্যা, মূল্য, ওজন ইত্যাদির নিম্নসীমা নির্দেশ করতে

• Apples are available from 90 to 100 taka.
• Here are the boys from 12 years to 15 years.

(vii) কারণ (cause) বোঝাতে

• He is suffering from a fever.

(viii) প্রতিকার, প্রতিরোধ বা প্রতিরক্ষা বোঝাতে

• He saved the child from kidnappers.
• Masks reduce the risk from swine flu.

(ix) দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি (point of view) বোঝাতে

• This habit helps us explore life from different perspectives.
• From a financial point of view, the year plan is effective.

(x) কোন কিছু বিবেচনা করে বোঝাতে

• From his appearance, he seems to be innocent.
• It seems to be a nice tour from what they say.

(xi) উপকরণ বোঝাতে; তবে এক্ষেত্রে উপকরণটি পরিবর্তিত হয়ে থাকে

• Most Ayurvedic medicines are made from herbs.
• Butter is made from milk.

Uses Preposition “IN” (In এর ব্যবহার)

(i) সীমানার মধ্যে কোন স্থান বা অঞ্চল বোঝাতে সাধারণত বড় শহর, নগর, রাষ্ট্র, প্রদেশ, দেশ, মহাদেশ, পৃথিবী বা জগত বোঝাতে in বসে

• They are working in the fields.
• The orphanage is high in the Carolina mountains.

(ii) আয়তন (volume) বা কোন ধারক (container) এর ধারণক্ষমতা নির্দেশক স্থান বোঝাতে

• Drug addiction has been a serious problem in modern society.
• There is a little water in this pond.
• The meaning of words is given in a dictionary.

(iii) পেশা বা বৃত্তি বোঝাতে

• My brother is in the airforce.
• I am in business.

(iv) অবস্থা বা অবস্থান (স্থির) বোঝাতে

• I see, you are in trouble.
• He is in good/poor health.
• We build new and creative thoughts, images, and opinions in our minds.

(v) পোশাক-পরিচ্ছদ বা বর্ণ (colour) বোঝাতে

• Today she is in shorts/tights.
• I am in jeans today.
• They are all in black/red.

(vi) গঠন-বিন্যাস, আকার-আকৃতি বা ক্রম বোঝাতে

• We were standing in rows before the party office.
• This drama will be telecast in thirteen episodes.
• Arrange the names in order of merit.
• Polybags are used in many ways.

(vii) মাস, ঋতু কিংবা বছর-এর নামের পূর্বে এবং শতাব্দী ও ঐতিহাসিক সময়কাল প্রকাশক শব্দগুচ্ছের পূর্বে—

• Summertime begins in May.
• The writer was there in the autumn.
• The house was built in the 19th century.
• Jazz first became popular in the 1920s.

(viii) মাধ্যম (medium-ভাষা/উপকরণ) বোঝাতে

• He is writing the answers in ink.
• Every year many students fall in English.

(ix) ভ্রমণের বা পরিবহনের মাধ্যম বোঝাতে, বিশেষ করে মাধ্যমটি যদি article, adjective বা adjective clause দ্বারা modified হয় তবে by না ব্যবহার করে in ব্যবহার করতে হয়

• We set out in a small boat.
• The president came in a red car.
• We went there in a car which was from Japan.

(x) পাওনা বা বেতন (wage) পরিশোধের মুদ্রা উল্লেখ করতে

• Payment will be made in taka/dollar.

(xi) কোন person-এর বিশেষ সহজাত গুণাগুণ (inherent quality) উল্লেখ করতে

• The genius in her is still alive.
• The poet in her impressed us.
• The mother in her rose.
• We saw a friend in the pet dog.

(xii) সামগ্রিক বিষয়ের অংশ বোঝাতে

• Good books always guide us towards the right path in life.
• There are seven days in a week.
• There are sixty-four districts in Bangladesh.

(xiii) ব্যাপক সময় বা সময়কাল (a period of time) বোঝাতে

• He got back in the evening.
• They did all the repairs in one day.

(xiv) ব্যাপক সময়ের পূর্বে কোনকিছু ঘটে বা সমাপ্ত হয় বোঝাতে (within অর্থে)

• I’ll be back in an hour.
• We are leaving home in a few hours.
• They said they’d finish the work in two or three days.

(xv) প্রসঙ্গ বোঝাতে (about অর্থে)

• The government and mass media can play an effective role in this respect.
• Bangladesh is rich in mineral resources.

(xvi) কিছু কিছু Phrase and Idiom যেমন the long run, black and white, lieu of, stead of, association with ইত্যাদির পূর্বে appropriate preposition in ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• The sinners suffer in the long run.
• You should submit it in black and white.
